Man of Rochdale Paul Ellison reveals motivation behind deterring fly-tippers Date published: 11 May 2021
Paul Ellison, after the attack
Paul Ellison, Man of Rochdale 2019/2020, has revealed what drives his motivation in deterring fly-tippers in Ashworth Valley.
Whilst fly-tipping is unfortunately a common blight on the environment, it’s less common to confront, or attempt to stop, those in the very act.
But Paul has now revealed that after he joined local police in trying to catch the criminals in the act, he was attacked one night four years ago.
The attack came around the time when hundreds of tyres were being dumped in the area.

Stihl power tools have been stolen from Man of Rochdale Paul Ellison’s van in Norden, during the early hours of Wednesday morning (24 February).
Paul, who runs his own company Evergreen Landscapes and is involved with many community projects like Rochdale In Bloom, the Friends of Jubilee Park and NEEVA (Norden Environmental and Economic Village Association), says the theft took place outside his Edenfield Road home, after he loaded his van at 6.30am. Just 20 minutes later, the tools had been taken.
Christmas trees collected by Springhill Hospice recycled for mulch on its grounds Date published: 16 January 2021
Real Christmas trees were donated from across the borough, contributing towards patient care at the hospice
The very first Springhill Hospice Christmas tree collection was a huge success – resulting in collected trees being chipped up for mulch at the hospice.
In a new collection organised by Rebekah Cheshire, Springhill’s Events and Campaigns Fundraiser, real Christmas trees were donated from across the borough, contributing towards patient care at the hospice.
The trees were chipped up at Springhill, with the resulting mulch to be used on its award-winning grounds, part of the Rochdale In Bloom initiative, ensuring that nothing goes to waste.
Paul Ellison with his daughter Bonnie
It’s been 10 long months since Man of Rochdale Paul Ellison last saw his nine-year-old daughter, Bonnie, but, in a surprise that had been planned for months, the pair were reunited in time for Christmas.
Paul, who lives in Norden, last saw his daughter, who has lived on the Isle of Man with her mum for the last couple of years, in February. Since she moved out there, Paul has been a regular visitor to the island, spending many weekends with Bonnie – until March 2020.
After that visit in February, Paul next planned to fly out at the start of March – but FlyBe went bust and airline ticket prices shot through the roof.
