Amy Elik, R-Fosterburg, was officially sworn into office Wednesday as the new state representative for the 111th Legislative District. Elik was sworn in during a ceremony of the 102nd Illinois General Assembly held at BOS Center in Springfield. She thanked the residents of Madison and Jersey counties for electing her. “I ran for office to represent the forgotten voices of a border district,” she said. “I am tired of seeing families flee Illinois to neighboring states for more favorable policies and better opportunity for the middle class,” Elik said. “Our state is in crisis. I will work to advance the needs and priorities of the district and will take those forgotten voices with me to Springfield every day.” ....

Show MoreShow Less 2of6 6of6 SPRINGFIELD A criminal justice reform bill opposed by Madison County law enforcement officials was approved Wednesday by the Illinois House of Representatives. Just before noon, the House voted 60-50 to approve House Bill 3563, formerly known as House Bill 163. The passage came about seven hours after the Illinois Senate, at around 4 a.m. Wednesday, approved the bill 32-23. ....
Riverbend East Rotary Club forms The Telegraph FacebookTwitterEmail WOOD RIVER Rotary International has approved the merger of the Wood River and East Alton Rotary Clubs to become the Riverbend East Rotary Club. Both former clubs have a long history of serving their communities Wood River since 1929 and East Alton since 1971. The new club officers are Chris Logan as president, Lindsey Herron as vice-president, Lori Palmer as secretary and George Moore as treasurer. The new club will start with a membership of 55 serving the communities of East Alton, Wood River, South Roxana, Roxana, Hartford and Wood River Township through service projects and targeted contributions. ....
Roxana man charged in sex assault Scott Cousins, scousins@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail Zackary A. Moore, 23, was charged Jan. 6 with two counts of criminal sexual assault. The case was presented by the Wood River Police Department. According to court documents, the incident occurred June 10, 2019 when Moore committed several sex acts with a then-19-year-old woman who was unable to give consent. Bail was set at $100,000. In an unrelated incident, an Alton man who had been charged in a separate offense Jan. 4 was charged with aggravated battery on Jan. 6. Leon English, 26, was charged Jan. 6 with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony. The case was presented by the East Alton Police Department. ....
