At approximately 2:30 Tuesday morning, troopers from the Hope Valley Barracks, as well as members of the Hope Valley Fire and Rescue, responded to an incident on Route 95 North involving a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian.
The subsequent investigation revealed that tractor-trailer, operated by Norberto Gonzalez, age 40, of New Haven, Connecticut, was traveling in the low speed lane of Route 95 North in the Town of Richmond.
At a point approximately one-half mile north of Exit 3, the vehicle struck a pedestrian who had entered the first lane of travel. That subject has been identified as Clark W. Reynolds, age 64, of Exeter, Rhode Island.
Feds charge 15 with combined $578K in unemployment fraud

PROVIDENCE – Federal prosecutors announced charges against 15 individuals Thursday related to alleged fraudulent unemployment claims filed in Rhode Island and other states.
The defendants were alleged to have filed claims for a total value of $578,571, including $126,000 in claims in Rhode Island, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island, the Office of the R.I. Attorney General, the FBI, and the R.I. State Police announced jointly Thursday. The 15 individuals were charged with wire fraud and money laundering, and were alleged to have filed multiple claims for unemployment in Rhode Island and other states.
The agency have launched a recruiting drive for its next training academy scheduled to start in January. Service in the Rhode Island State Police requires active, intelligent people whose reputations are above reproach, the agency said in a statement. High moral, mental, and physical standards are demanded and maintained.

PROVIDENCE, RI Three Providence residents were arrested last week in connection with a reported odometer rollback scheme, Rhode Island State Police said. More than 50 vehicles listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace are believed to have altered odometers, according to police.
Pablo Beato, 49, Bersania Bencosme, 34, and Eddy Bencosme Diaz, 21, were each charged with tampering with odometers, false statements to fraudulently obtain a registration, forgery and counterfeiting, access to a computer for fraudulent purposes and obtaining property by false pretenses and conspiracy.

The Rhode Island State Police just turned 96 years old. The first group of troopers was formed in April 1925 under the guidance of Col. Everitte St. John Chaffee. He was an Army officer and war veteran, and also a graduate of Harvard Law School. He made sure that the distinctive uniforms worn by the force were all of the highest quality.
