Richard Mansell is looking to use his experience from last season s Euram Bank Open as he goes in search of a first European Tour win at the 2021 Canary Islands Championship.
The Englishman carded a bogey free 64 to sit two shots behind leaderGarrick Higgo after 54 holes at Golf Costa Adeje but this will not be his first time in the final group on a Sunday despite him playing in just his ninth European Tour event.
He was in the same position last summer at Golf Club Adamstal and finished second to Joël Stalter as he continued his rise in the golfing world.
Fellow Scots Calum Hill and Connor Syme were alongside Ramsay and overnight leader Francesco Laporta on 12 under, with England’s Andrew Johnston and Richard Mansell on 11 under with Tenerife Open winner Dean Burmester.
Ramsay, whose last win came in Morocco in 2015, said: “I think when you go out in the first round and shoot a really good score, it’s easy to let your mind rest and suddenly start thinking about winning and what you’re going to do.
“The tough thing is to follow it up so today was almost more impressive for me because I stayed with the present, didn’t think about the future and just stuck to my guns and just picked off my shots.

Francesco Laporta carded the lowest round of his European Tour career to hit the front after day one of the 2021 Canary Islands Championship.
The Italian was a picture of consistency last week at Golf Costa Adeje as he went 68-67-67-71 but he showed he had truly found his feet in the final event of the Canary Islands Swing, posting a 62 to get to nine under and lead by one from home favourite Scott Fernandez.
Laporta triggered the second 59 Watch of the day as he got to nine under after 14 holes but parred his way in to card his best round of the 2021 Race to Dubai by five shots.

IT MAY NOT have been the perfect start but Paul Dunne is still in contention at the Austrian Open after an opening round of 73 today.
Dunne was the leading Irish contender on an unsatisfactory day for our golfers. Cormac Sharvin shot a three-over-par, 75; Gavin Moynihan recorded a five-over, 77 while Jonathan Caldwell will do well to make the cut after an eight-over, 80.

Alejandro Cañizares used all of his experience to card a gutsy round of 67 and take a one shot lead after day one of the 2021 Austrian Golf Open.
In very cold and sometimes windy conditions at Diamond Country Club, the Spaniard carded an eagle and four birdies with a single dropped shot to get to five under.
There was then 14 European Tour wins in the group a shot back, with two time Major Champion Martin Kaymer, two time winner in 2020 John Catlin and former Italian Open champion Rikard Karlberg at four under alongside South African Jacques Kruyswijk.
