Majority of hires for Taiwan Semiconductor s forthcoming Phoenix fab to be recent college grads

âThereâs no existing talent pool that already has experience in our technology, so the hires for the AZ fab are primarily recent college graduates,â TSMC spokeswoman Nina Kao told the Phoenix Business Journal. âIn fact, most of the engineers hired by TSMC are recent graduates â even hires in Taiwan who will also train on the technology and TSMCâs manufacturing operations.â
TSMC is expected to spend at least $12 billion from 2021 to 2029 on the new semiconductor factory, or fab, be built on 1,128 acres of land in north Phoenix. The plant is expected by 2024 to produce 5 nanometer computer chips.
Taiwan Semiconductor hires 250 employees destined for Arizona site

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has hired its first batch of employees that will end up at its forthcoming Arizona factory.
Last year TSMC
picked Arizona as its first U.S.-built factory (or fab) and it recently finished its first round of hiring, bringing in more than 250 new employees from across the U.S.
These people will end up working in human resources and fab operations, including engineers and technical specialists, and approximately 20% of the new hires have degrees from an Arizona university.

A promotional photo and video shoot was produced at McGeachie Trails in Limerick Township on Feb. 27 to highlight the trails’ suitability for various winter sports for residents and tourists alike, and to promote economic development. The photo and video materials, focusing on cross country skiing and snowshoeing, were produced by Hastings Destination Trails Inc. with a grant from the Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization, in cooperation with Hastings County. It is set to be used to promote McGeachie Trails after the pandemic has subsided, likely for the 2021/2022 winter season.
According to HDTI’s Cathy Trimble, the organization had received a $2,500 digital marketing grant from the OHTO recently, and decided to do a photo and video shoot to market McGeachie Trails as a winter tourist destination for the 2021/2022 winter season.
Apple Partner TSMC has Chosen a West Point Engineer & long-standing Executive to be their new Arizona Plant CEO
On December 23, Patently Apple posted a report titled Apple s Chip Supplier TSMC is now on a hiring Blitz for its US$12 Arizona Plant that will produce 5nm Chips. The report noted that TSMC was aggressively recruiting 600 engineers and executives for its new US plant.
Earlier this week TSMC announced that their Arizona plant will be led by Rick Cassidy, the head of the Corporate Strategy Office. Cassidy will concurrently serve as the CEO and general manager of the subsidiary TSMC Arizona.
Cassidy joined TSMC’s North American subsidiary as deputy general manager of customer management in 1997, and was promoted to general manager and chief executive officer of TSMC’s North American subsidiary in 2005. In 2008, he served as TSMC’s deputy general manager in charge of North American business, and was later promoted to senior deputy General manager.
