Elena De La Rosa is well aware that many people she comes in contact with at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolisâas well as those who live outside the Fredericksburg areaâwould have a hard time recognizing her hometown.
âMost people canât even point out King George on the map,â she said, âbut having so many of us here from the same humble beginnings proves that King George High School breeds a caliber of student that are competitive, intelligent and service-oriented.â
De La Rosa, 22, is a seniorâa 1/C Midshipman in academy lingoâand one of four King George High School graduates at the naval academy. This year, thereâs a King George alum representing every class at the academy, from 4/C, which is the freshman or âplebeâ year, to De La Rosa and her fellow seniors, known as âfirsties.â
Bay Rivers Telehealth Alliance Wins $1,000,000 in Federal Funds

Bay Rivers Telehealth Alliance (BRTA) has been awarded federal grant funds of $1,000,000 over 3 years to strengthen and expand substance use disorder (SUD), including opioid use disorder (OUD) prevention, treatment, and recovery services in underserved rural areas. The goals for the grant build on the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP), a multi-year federal initiative to address barriers to access in services in rural communities. BRTA took the first step in 2018-2019 through a RCORP planning grant to identify community barriers and develop strategies to address related SUD/OUD community needs. Funds from the newly awarded Rural Communities Opioid Response Program Implementation (RCORP-I) grant will carry out strategies identified in the earlier strategic plan through 2023.
