SEAFORD Children playing with a metal detector on Mastin Avenue in Seaford were surprised to find a large, round object buried two feet below ground.
After they brought their discovery inside a home, the parents immediately called the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO) for assistance.
On Wednesday, March 10, sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene to assess the strange object and, after taking a good look at it, they called in the expertise of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment at Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Yorktown.
When their parents saw the 150-year-old explosive, they immediately called the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office. Naval Weapons Station experts will detonate it.
Authorities have arrested a James City County man who allegedly shot someone outside of a Game Stop.
On Thursday at approximately 2:16 p.m., Alexander Xavier Berkely, 29, was arrested by the Clarksburg Police Department in Clarksburg, West Virginia according to a Facebook post from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
On Dec. 26 at approximately 10:54 a.m., deputies responded to a shooting at the 800 block of East Rochambeau Drive where a man was transported to a nearby hospital.
The man was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital, “which would have been right around the corner where the event occurred,” according to a statement made Friday by YPSO spokesperson Sgt. Michael “Adam” Cooper.
