Health Notes: Ohtani, Mondesi, Graterol, Mikolas, D-backs,

Shohei Ohtani was supposed to take the mound for the Angels in their game against the Rays on Monday, but the team scratched him in favor of lefty Jose Quintanabecause of elbow soreness. Ohtani swas hit by pitch on Sunday, and manager Joe Maddon told reporters (including Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times) that he’s now “too sore to throw.” However, there’s still a chance he’ll start sometime during this four-game set versus Tampa Bay. Even if that doesn’t happen, Ohtani feels well enough to hit, so the DH will continue making an offensive impact. Ohtani has only made three starts and pitched 13 2/3 innings this season, but he has overcome control problems (13 walks) to log a 3.29 ERA with 23 strikeouts and a 62.5 percent groundball percentage. He has complemented his pitching performance with a power-packed .270/.318/.620 line, eight homers and six stolen bases over 107 plate appearances as a hitter.

Dodgers Make Several Roster Moves

MLB Trade Rumors Dennis Santana from the injured list, placed left-hander David Price on the 10-day IL with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain, and recalled righty The highly touted Lux, 22, began the season as the Dodgers’ starter at the keystone, but right wrist soreness has kept him out since April 14. Before that, Lux came out of the gates slowly with a .220/.244/.317 line and no home runs in 45 plate appearances. The Dodgers utilized Chris Taylor at second while Lux was out. Price returned this season after opting out of the 2020 campaign over COVID-19 concerns, though the former American League Cy Young winner has struggled in a full-time role as a reliever. The 35-year-old, who entered the season with 311 starts in 321 appearances, has pitched seven times out of the Dodgers’ bullpen and yielded seven runs (six earned) on a whopping 14 hits with 11 strikeouts against four walks in 9 2/3 innings. Price is going to miss at least

THE BUZZ California YIMBYs suddenly have an ally in the White House. Housing production advocates have exulted in the Biden administration’s effort to alter zoning laws via a sweeping infrastructure push. The language of the proposal which faulted restrictions on multi-family zoning because they “drive up the cost of construction and keep families from moving to neighborhoods with more opportunities” echoed the central argument of many Californians, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, who blame local government resistance to building anything except more single-family homes as a central reason for California’s dire

Dodgers Trevor Bauer says he pitched against Padres with one eye closed By Erin Walsh  |  Last updated 3/6/21 Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer took training to the next level on Saturday against the San Diego Padres, pitching most of the first inning with one of his eyes closed. Bauer began the inning by allowing Jurickson Profar to single, Tommy Pham to walk and throwing a wild pitch. The 30-year-old eventually worked out of the jam, getting Austin Nola to pop up and striking out Victor Caratini and Ha-Seong Kim.  Trevor Bauer striking out people with one eye closed. pic.twitter.com/heHkxVPdL7 MLB (@MLB) March 6, 2021
