24th Annual Spring Downtown Pittsfield Cleanup is this Friday, May 21, 2021 from 1 to 4 pm.
Downtown Cleanups are good-natured competitions between local companies supporting an important part of DPI’s Quality of Life Committee’s mission to keep downtown clean, safe, and friendly.

The downtown cleanup area includes North and South Streets between East/West Housatonic and Berkshire Medical Center and all side streets.
This year’s teams are made up of individuals from the following Pittsfield businesses:
Barrington Stage Company, Berkshire Bank, Berkshire County Arc, Berkshire Medical Center, Berkshire Theatre Group, Berkshire United Way, BVS of ServiceNet, Carr Hardware, Crane Currency, Cross Insurance, Dulye Leadership Experience, Guardian Life Insurance Company, Housatonic Valley Association, Lee Bank, Pittsfield High School, Pittsfield Police Department, and RE-FORMation Academy.
Flushing of the city s water mains through hydrants continues between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, May 10, through Friday, May 14, in the following areas:
⢠Several locations along Park, King and Onota streets near Von Nida, Walnut and West Housatonic streets; Fort Hill Avenue, South Street, and Velma Avenue.
⢠All of West Housatonic Street from South Street to Callahan Drive and all neighborhood streets in-between (i.e. Boylston Street, Cadwell Road, Lebanon, Avenue, and Cole Avenue).
⢠West Street from Park Square continuing to Fort Hill Avenue and all neighborhood streets in-between.
⢠Several locations along Center Street, Valentine Road, Peck s Road, Thomas Island, upper North Street, outer Wahconah Street, Lakeway Drive, and Linden Street.
PITTSFIELD â A new zoning district that planners developed to help revitalize the cityâs core passed the muster of a City Council subcommittee Monday.
The proposal to create the Downtown Creative District aims to encourage mixed-use development with a focus on the arts economy, and increase residential units to help address a local housing crunch. The subcommittee on Ordinance and Rules recommended the ordinance favorably back to the full City Council for approval, with councilors Nicholas Caccamo, Pete White, Earl Persip III, Patrick Kavey and Anthony Maffuccio throwing their support behind the plan.
By specifying design standards for those buildings and allowable uses according to location, City Planner C.J. Hoss said the regulations would spell out for developers the types of projects the city hopes to see downtown.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. Mayor Linda Tyer on Monday outlined a historically difficult year in the city of Pittsfield, as with the rest of the world, in her annual state of the city address. It s hard to believe that next month marks one year of dealing with this global public health crisis, she said. In looking back at the past year, it is easy to become fixated on all of the things that we have done to mitigate COVID-19. Our attention and energy were focused, and rightly so, on doing all that we could to keep our community safe. Circumstances are constantly evolving. It requires us to monitor, assess, and adjust. We are still very much in the midst of protecting ourselves and each other while at the same time, finding ways to sustain our economy, keep people employed, and reopen our schools.
