According to a prepared statement on social media, first responders were called to the 400 block of Westshore Drive at roughly 6:30 p.m. Saturday for a reported drowning.
Police and firefighters, along with the help of Good Samaritans, entered the water to rescue the unidentified person.
However, despite life-saving efforts, the person was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
The incident remains under investigation and no further information has been released. ....

LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. A large sinkhole has caused a road closure on Lummi Island.
Due to the sinkhole, West Shore Drive is closed at the 2300 block and will remain closed until further notice.
Whatcom County Public Works says the issue is largely below the pavement and the majority of the problem can’t be seen from the surface.
Public Works is evaluating the sinkhole to determine its cause and how it will initiate a repair. ....

Marblehead Town Meeting cleared 49 articles in three hours flat Monday, passing a $103 million budget with no discussion and voting down staggered elections, peace and quiet and, once again, a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers.
Here are the highlights:
Article 15 generated the first serious discussion. Town Meeting approved spending $314,000 on storm-drainage construction but former Waldron Street resident Toby Reiley warned residents that “if not this year then next year” they need to up the ante. He pointed to an abandoned storm drain in his old neighborhood that causes flooding issues. He said the town needs to start fully funding its infrastructure issues. ....
