Louisville s Beecher Terrace housing complex has new life – and familiar faces.
Several residents displaced by the ongoing construction have moved back in, Mayor Greg Fischer announced Wednesday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the first two phases of the renovation to replace hundreds of aging affordable housing units with newer apartments.
Fischer spoke in front of a row of apartments he said are fully occupied by former Beecher Terrace residents who were relocated when the complex was torn down in 2017. They chose to return, he said, because they see a bright future in their old neighborhood. One thing that I have repeatedly heard from west Louisville residents about economic development in the west is that they were far too used to promises being made, but too few promises ever materialized, Fischer told the crowd. LOUISVILLE, Ky. Maria Price is stepping down as executive director of the St. John Center for Homeless Men after spending 13 years at the helm of the Louisville shelter.
Price announced she will step down from her position at the end of September. It has been a privilege to serve the people who come to St. John Center, Price said in a Friday news release. I’m incredibly grateful for my time here.
Price began volunteering in 1994 at the daytime shelter and social services center, 700 E. Muhammad Ali Blvd., and in 2006, she joined the staff as the Development Director.
