Tesla is hosting a special event for the Model S Plaid at its main factory in Fremont, California. The event was originally scheduled for June 3, 2021, but it was pushed back to June 10, 2021, at 7 PM PT. It will be the usual Tesla late-night event for those of us in the Eastern Time zone.
Of course, we could choose not to stay up and watch it or report on it, but there are so many unanswered questions. What s the point of the event, aside from shedding light on the first Model S Plaid deliveries? Perhaps nothing.
Elon Musk notes that Pure Vision-based FSD Beta V9 will be launching its production release this week. The next releases are expected to happen in the next two or three weeks.
Tesla s Website No Longer Mentions Radar For Autopilot & FSD

As Tesla continues using owners to test its Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD) technology, updates have been happening on a regular basis. It seemed plenty of progress was made early on, however, at a point, the updates slowed, timelines became cloudy, and not much has happened of late.
This is apparently because Tesla s engineers decided that the cars may no longer need radar. Instead, with Tesla s AI approach, only pure vision may be needed. Tesla CEO Elon Musk mentioned this some time ago on Twitter, and he s referenced it a few times since.
Car and Driver have devised a 70-mile test loop designed to track how autonomous tech progresses.
The first car on test was naturally a Tesla
Car and Driver’s own leased Model 3. The EV is spec’d with Autopilot, Navigate on Autopilot and Smart Summon, all of which are part of the Full Self Driving Package. Unfortunately, the test car hasn’t yet received the “Full Self Driving Beta” update, which has been rolled out to a handful of cars. That said, it’ll give us a comparison of the two versions, with a realistic idea of what improvements the new software brings to the table once it’s applied to the test car.
