Alaska Incident Management Team, two hotshot crews head to Lower 48 to help with wildfires

The Alaska Type 1 Incident Management Team, two Alaska hotshot crews and more than a dozen Alaska Smokejumpers have been mobilized to the Lower 48 to assist with wildland fire management in the western United States. The Alaska IMT, which consists of approximately 70 highly trained wildland firefighting personnel from multiple Alaska state and federal agencies, flew out on a chartered jet from the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC) on Tuesday. The Team will be prepositioned in Boise, Idaho, home to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), to await an assignment. Search on for Alaska hiker charged by bears on mountain trail By Syndicated Content Jun 16, 2021 | 5:58 PM ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) â Search teams in Alaska were looking on Wednesday for a hiker who has been missing since early Tuesday morning when she reported being menaced by bears on a mountain trail near Anchorage. The search was launched after the hiker phoned her husband for help, telling him she had been charged by âmultiple bears,â the Alaska State Troopers said in a statement. She told her husband she discharged bear spray at the attacking animals. Soon after her call for help, she stopped responding to phone calls and text messages, the troopers said. The hikerâs name was not released.
