The deadline for grant applications has been extended and applications are due no later than July 2, 2021. The original May 14, 2021, deadline was extended to support requests from communities for additional time to prepare proposals. This grant opportunity will support increased access to electronics recycling in the state. Grants can be used to: support improvements to current collection facilities; support electronics recycling events leading up to the establishment of permanent collection locations; support the collection, handling and proper recycling of consumer electronics; and provide collection and recycling infrastructure ....

In a virtual presentation April 19, EGLE joined with the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, bipartisan lawmakers and Meijer to announce NextCycle Michigan, an initiative designed to spark an economic recovery through recycling activities. As reported by the Capital Gazette, the state of Maryland has sued a Columbia-based Ecology Services Inc. for an estimated $2.1 million on claims that the company operated without a permit for most of last year and violated a stormwater discharge agreement at a site in Pasadena. The lawsuit includes two counts against the waste management and recycling company for alleged violations at its Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard property. One count is for operating without a permit for 213 days from Jan. 3 to Aug. 3, 2020. It comes with a civil penalty of up to $10,000 for each day with a permit, according to the suit. ....
