Children with clean shaven heads can be seen carrying the “kavadi” and “pal kudam” (milk pot) before climbing 272 steps to fulfil their vows to avoid the Thaipusam crowd on Saturday.
K.Kavitha, 34, who was carrying the ‘pal kudam’ said it took her a longer time to reach the top as she had to use the high overhead bridge.

KUALA LUMPUR: Every year during the Thaipusam festival, the Sri Subramaniar Swamy temple at Batu Caves would be flooded in a sea of people comprising Hindu devotees from all over the country and tourists, both local and foreign.
Today, however, the crowds were absent from the temple, which was tightly guarded by the police, as Hindu temples nationwide adhered to the standard operating procedure (SOP) under the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Nevertheless, this year’s Thaipusam is just as significant and meaningful as Hindus marked the occasion with prayers at home, particularly for the country to be free of the Covid-19 pandemic.
KUALA LUMPUR: The annual journey of the chariot bearing the statue of Lord Murugan from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam here to Batu Caves proceeded without a hitch.

LUMPUR : Police issued a reminder today that only 10 people comprising of temple officials and workers are allowed to accompany the Thaipusam chariot.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said that as allowed by the government, the chariot will leave the Sri Maha Mariamman temple on Jalan Tun H.S.Lee here on a three-hour journey for the Sri Subramaniaswamy temple at Batu Caves at 3am tomorrow and will return to the former on Friday.
He said no processions, spectators or accompanying music will be allowed throughout the passage of the chariot’s movement.
