Marion – Troopers from the Marion Post are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on May 6, 2021, at approximately 9:18 AM at the intersection of Center Street and Merchant Avenue in the City of Marion, Marion County.
The crash involved a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Savanna G. Parkman, age 18, of Marion, Ohio, and a 2013 Toyota Tacoma, driven by John R. Leveck, age 59, of Marion, Ohio. Mr. Leveck was traveling eastbound on Center Street. Ms. Parkman was traveling northbound on Merchant Avenue, failed to yield the right of way, attempted to turn left to travel westbound on Center Street, and was struck by the Tacoma.

With a rift between two local fire departments now brought to light, Marion Township Fire Department Chief Ben Meddles wants to see change.
John Bailey II, 55, of Marion died that night in the fire. When fire officials arrived on-scene, the house was already fully engulfed in the blaze with the roof collapsing. Since Bailey was located upstairs in the house, firefighters were unable to execute a rescue attempt. Meddles said this wasn t to the fault of SVFD; even if they would ve responded, Meddles said Bailey had more than likely already died before Marion Township could start applying water.
