KARACHI/ ISLAMABAD: A nationwide shutter down strike has been announced for today (Monday) by former Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairperson Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman after the violence and protests in Lahore led to clashes between the police and a banned religiopolitical party.
Other prominent religious leaders have supported Mufti Muneeb s strike call and condemned the police action in Lahore a day earlier.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mufti Taqi Usmani are among those who condemned the Lahore violence, with Fazl announcing support for Mufti Muneeb s strike call.
In a Twitter statement, Mufti Usmani said the attacks on police by certain people were certainly wrong, but the government should act wisely.

KARACHI/ ISLAMABAD: A nationwide shutter-down strike has been called for today by the leaders of various religio-political outfits after violence and protests in Lahore led to clashes between police and supporters of a banned religiopolitical party.
The recently removed Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairperson Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman had made the announcement for a strike in a press conference in Karachi along with other religious leaders late on Sunday.

Health experts, scholars call for more research on fasting by diabetics

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, hundreds of millions of Muslims around the globe fasted in Ramazan last year, and this year too an overwhelmingly large number of people wish to keep fasts, but those suffering from chronic illnesses like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease should consult their doctors and physicians for safe fasting and to reap the physical and spiritual benefits of fasting.
These observations were made by Islamic scholars and health experts at an international health conference on Saturday.
“There are some extreme views that fasting is very harmful for the diabetes patients in all circumstances, and there are some who say fasting should be practised [even] in worst [health] conditions, but I think medical practitioners will be in a better position to explain to the patients as to how they should fast safely,” renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani said
