(Newswatch Group/Bill Kingston, File) CORNWALL – A city councillor is reigniting debate on donating Cornwall’s historic locomotive to an Eastern Ontario railway museum instead of restoring it. In a new business motion for tonight’s council meeting, Coun. Elaine MacDonald says Locomotive #17 has “languished” at the corner of Brookdale Avenue and Ninth Street and no council has “made the commitment to refurbish the car or relocate it in a more accessible pedestrian-friendly location.” In February 2019, council voted 7-4 against a motion trying to sell or donate the locomotive before scrapping it.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Excellent suggestion for traffic circle

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Excellent suggestion for traffic circle December 16, 2020 Reading time: 1 min 30 s Seaway News Staff The editor: In his letter “Traffic circle proposal” (December 2nd) Andrew Kellogg has put forward an excellent suggestion. The situation highlighted by Mr. Kellogg is, indeed, a good example of where a roundabout would serve to allow traffic to flow and, at the same time, reduce the chance of serious accidents. It is, however, only one example of where a roundabout would best serve Cornwall residents and visitors. The junction of Ninth and McConnell, with its available space, would have been an ideal location for a roundabout but traffic lights were installed instead; a wasted opportunity to reduce the daily emission of carbon dioxide from the huge numbers of vehicles stopped at the lights – compounding the damage to the ionosphere. It seems such simple logic – keep the traffic moving!
