Claremont Senior Program hosts a free virtual town hall for seniors to fight fraud and scams Thursday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m.
The event will be hosted by California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara and Micki Nozaki, director of the Senior Medicare Patrol Project. The aim is to provide Californians tools to fight back against fraud and scams.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), a global asset manager with more than $200 billion in assets under management, has made an undisclosed investment in four family-owned orchards in the Goulburn Valley in the state of Victoria, Australia.
This investment, which is being conducted through Ontario Teachers’ Australian subsidiary AustOn Corporation, will bring together Oakmoor Orchards, run by the Varapodio family; Turnbull Brothers Orchards; Pickworth Orchards; and Chatswood Farm, run by the Hall family.
The newly merged entity, which will be called Pomona Valley, will include more than 500 hectares (1,235.5 acres) of orchards, water rights, two packing houses – OzPac run by the Varapodios family, and Integrity Fruit run by M J Hall and Sons – and additional land in Ardmona, Tatura, Mooroopna, and Toolamba.

Mining in Pomona Village; Nearby River Severely Affected
On Monday night, we brought you the story of an environmental crisis that is taking place in Pomona Valley where mining activities along the North Stann Creek River are adversely affecting the community. Residents claim that operations conducted by West End Construction, a company that has been working in the area since 201, have led to the erosion of farmland and other properties situated on the banks of the tributary. Incidentally, West End Construction is owned by two brothers who made headlines two weeks ago in respect of the Commerce Bight port in Dangriga. Earlier today, News Five headed to the citrus belt. Reporter Isani Cayetano and cameraman Kenroy Michael have more on what is taking place in Pomona.
