The decision, which was published on Friday, was made this week by the council’s Committee of Ministers. Mr Finucane’s son John, the MP for North Belfast, said it was a “hugely significant move”, adding that the British government has been “criticised internationally for their failure to establish an inquiry and this level of scrutiny is vital to ensure truth can finally emerge”.
