The Prime Minister has shown that he doesn’t have any serious intentions of changing the culture of discrimination, sexual assault and harassment against women (“PM’s tin ear on display as crowd vents anger”, March 16). If he did, he would have accepted the invitation to attend the March 4 Justice rally. He could have listened to the voices of the women and, having heard their stories, responded with an undertaking to bring forward reform, showing a determination to change the current toxic climate. Instead, he tells us how lucky we are to live in a country where you are not going to get shot for attending a protest. Really? Such a complete lack of understanding and empathy fills me with despair. We need to keep ....

Now that Scott Morrison has put on his father cap, could he extend compassion to the Sri Lankan family incarcerated on Christmas Island (“Plea to free family stuck in visa limbo”, February 17) and allow them to return to their life in Biloela?

Following the Federal Court’s positive ruling in favour of the Tamil family’s visa application, it was distressing to read that the government is still not legally obliged to release the family from detention on Christmas Island. Unsurprisingly, the Home Affairs Department trotted out the usual weasel words: “At no time has any member of the family been found to be owed protection.” Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do ....
