Northern Lights Gallery, located on Main Street in Melfort is bringing Slow Art Day to the community on Saturday, April 10. The worldwide event is coming to Melfort for the first time as a chance to appreciate the art that is made in the area. According to gallery owner Sandra Dancey, in the times we are in, an event like this is beneficial.
This is the eleventh year for the event internationally. It’s designed as a day to slow down and appreciate art.

During the event, participants are encouraged to visit local museums and galleries to look at art pieces for 10 minutes each, and then meet together for a beverage to talk about their experience and interpretations. “It is to promote the concept of slow down, and given the time we live in and what’s going on on the planet, people need things to focus on that helps improve the quality of life and cheer them up and make them think about something other than COVID,” said Sandra Dancey, the gallery’s owner. “Art is a really good way to do that and it ties into music and everything. I don’t think people fully grasp how much art is a part of their life.”
