Council to push through $3m+ projects under deadline crunch

Premium Content Subscriber only It’s almost crunch time on some government-funded Warwick developments, with pressure on to both start and finish projects by the end of the financial year. Several builds were approved by the State Government under the 2020-21 COVID Works for Queensland program, all of which are required to be completed by June 30 this year. These included the new fitness rooms at WIRAC worth $435,000, improvements to the Warwick pound totalling $100,000, and another $350,000 for septic receival unit construction. A massive $1.725 million investment in the Stanthorpe dump and another $420,000 for Storm King Dam remediation works were also included in the funding package.

Government pumps millions into Southern Downs water security

JOINT STATEMENT The Palaszczuk Government is investing millions to keep taps flowing in the Southern Downs with the Premier today announcing a $20 million drought resilience package for the region. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said while recent rain had provided much needed relief to the Southern Downs region including good inflows into Leslie, Connolly and Storm King Dams, it hasn’t been enough to solve long-term water security issues for the Southern Downs. “In late 2019, in response to low supplies in the region’s dams, my Government committed to plan for a new pipeline from Toowoomba to Warwick,” the Premier said. “This commitment was in addition to $15 million in emergency assistance provided to cart water into Stanthorpe.
