( 9:44 PM UPDATE: Foss’s appeal document added, after coverage of 75 speakers at Port Commission meeting, followed by commissioners passing both motions – as Shell drillship Noble Discoverer arrived in Everett) 12:58 PM: Just as Seattle port commissioners are about to start their meeting on the controversial Terminal 5 lease to Foss/Shell, we received that photo of one of the Shell offshore-drilling rigs that is expected to wind up here for a while: The Noble Discoverer, which, as we reported earlier, entered Washington waters early today. Jason Mihok photographed the ND (and Foss tugs) as they passed Port Townsend – he was on board the Victoria Clipper. Meantime, we’re at Pier 69 (steps from the Clipper’s HQ, in fact), where the commission chambers are overflowing – we in fact are sitting on the floor in the back of the room. We’ll be chronicling the meeting as it unfolds.

Saltchuk Acquires Centerline Logistics West Coast

© Amtek Marine / Adobe Stock Saltchuk Marine announced it has acquired Centerline Logistics’ harbor ship assist operations in California and the Pacific Northwest. Eight ship assist tugs currently operated under the Millennium and Starlight brands will join the Saltchuk Marine fleet in early 2021. Operations will be consolidated under the Starlight brand, which will remain independently-operated – managing, dispatching, and crewing its own boats. The acquisition increases the ship assist capacity of Saltchuk Marine companies by more than 40% in California. The addition of the Starlight brand to the Saltchuk Marine family of companies furthers the company’s goal to diversify resources and expertise to deliver a wide range of harbor towing solutions to customers along the West Coast, the company said.

Centerline Logistics acquires Saltchuk Marine Services’ refueling operations Centerline Logistics, a leading national provider of marine transportation services, says that it has acquired Saltchuk Marine Services’ California ship refueling business, currently operated by subsidiary Foss Maritime Company. This major acquisition brings together the combined capabilities of two of the nation’s leaders in petroleum transportation, strengthening Centerline’s position as a best-in-class provider of around the clock bunkering (ship refueling) services. Through this significant expansion, Centerline will substantially grow its existing California bunkering operations.
