Taxes are an inevitable part of life. Whether or not we like it (a
nd honestly, I ve yet to meet someone who enjoys being taxed, have you?) there is a cost to everything that we do.
Benjamin Franklin wrote a letter to Jean-Baptiste Le Roy all the way back in 1789 and in his candid note, he wrote, “
Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” However, it wasn’t Franklin who (is almost always credited with) came up with the phrase. The phrase was first known to have been put into writing by a British stage actor by the name of Christopher Bullock in his work, “The Cobbler of Preston” published in 1716 in which he wrote, “

A. A pied-à-terre tax is currently under consideration by the New York State Legislature that would affect real estate in cities with more than 1 million people.
Speeds Reduced on Several New York Roads Due to Winter Storm
Slow down if you have to travel on snow covered roads. Speeds have been reduced on a number of highways throughout New York state as the winter storm continues to hammer the east coast.
Speeds have been reduced to 45 mph on I-87 between Exit 24 in Albany and the NYC line, as well as I-287, I-95, the Garden State Parkway and the Berkshire Spur. The speed on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge has been reduced to 35 mph. Similar speed advisories of 45 mph are currently being employed on State Parkways, Route 17, I-84 and I-684.

NYC Subway, LIRR, Metro-North to Resume Service Early Feb 2
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the New York City Subway will resume above-ground service at 5 a.m. on February 2 and the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North plan to resume service by 4 a.m. ahead of the morning rush after earlier suspensions. LIRR will operate on a weekend schedule through Tuesday. New York City buses continue to run on a reduced schedule - 75% of regular weekday service - and the Staten Island Railway is operating. MTA Bridges and Tunnels ban on empty tractor trailers and tandem trucks remains in effect.
