VOLUNTARY groups and charities are springing into action to support families and individuals in lockdown three as Wiltshire Community Foundation relaunches its Coronavirus Response Fund. The community foundation has already raised more than £1.2 million and distributed more than £1 million through 220 grants. Now it is appealing for more donations as the groups it funds face the new challenge. Charities providing counselling, youth mentoring, food distribution, shopping for the elderly and befriending are switching services online, reactivating volunteers and reforming partnerships to cope with the lockdown announced on Monday. Pewsey Community Coronavirus Assistance is maintaining the services it has been running since March but switching some to delivery and adding shopping and prescription collection to those who need it. ....

Spare food won’t go to waste in Pewsey The people of Pewsey are being asked to donate spare food - having over ordered for Christmas. Volunteer group the PCCA doesn t want any of it to go to waste, so is setting itself up in the Scout Hut so folks can drop off un-needed excess. We are asking people who have surplus food due to the change in government rules to call us and drop off, so we can redistribute it to the community. Sadly due to the change in Covid rules, many households will have bought too much food, so we will be running a food share scheme before and after Christmas, said the PCCA s Phil Brady. ....

But the team who usually do the annual cook up at Bouverie Hall saved the day, having collected enough donated cash to buy enough turkey for everyone. In return, the PCCA set up this year during lockdown, will now drive and deliver the meals - cooked by the team of people behind the Bouverie Hall festive lunch. ....
