PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- After a significant uptick in street crime throughout various Rhode Island communities, one anti-violence group is heading to Providence on Monday night to try to influence change.
This vigil is set to take place at Billy Taylor Park in Providence at 6:40 p.m. Monday. Less than two weeks ago, two people were shot at this park in broad daylight.
The group, called The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVPRI), is a worldwide movement dedicated to teaching conflict resolution in a fun and innovative way not only for individuals, but also for groups in larger settings.
In less than 48 hours gun violence has swept across the city in Providence. The violence has left more than 50 bullet casings on the ground in three neighborhoods and in Pawtucket.
