The San Antonio Independent School District is partnering with several local colleges and businesses to add industry and career preparation programs to three more high schools starting in the fall, district leaders announced Tuesday.

It wasn’t until Roberto Garcia’s 14-year-old nephew was put on a ventilator at Methodist Children’s Hospital that he ever considered entering the medical field.
His nephew had muscular dystrophy and Garcia, then 17, remembers being both comforted and fascinated as he watched the respiratory therapist manage the ventilator that was essentially acting as the teenager’s lungs. Garcia’s nephew eventually passed away from complications of his disorder, but Garcia says that only cemented his resolve to become the first in his family to attend college so he could care for other patients. “In the midst of that tough time I was able to find a positive and a career path,” he says.

Northwest Vista College using pop up outdoor classrooms to help keep students safe
San Antonio – Two community colleges in the San Antonio area were recognized recently as some of the best in Texas by Niche, a company that gathers and analyzes data, reviews and surveys to come up with rankings.
Northwest Vista College and Palo Alto College made the top ten list for best community colleges in Texas at No. 2 and No. 6 respectively.
According to Niche’s website, the rankings were determined by factors like academics, value, professors, and diversity.
