First day of Eid Al Fitr on Thursday in Qatar

Doha: The Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced that Thursday, May 13, 2021, is the first day of the blessed Eid Al Fitr in Qatar.
This came in an announcement on Qatar TV by the committee headed by its chairman Sheikh Dr Thaqil Al Shammari, following a meeting today at the headquarters of the ministry.

In its statement, the Crescent Sighting Committee said it held its meeting Tuesday evening, Ramadan 29, 1442 AH, corresponding to May 11, 2021 to sight the crescent of Shawwal month, and prove the testimony of who sees it. The Committee said the crescent sighting was not confirmed tonight. As a result, Wednesday, May 12, 2021, will be the last day of Ramadan and Thursday will be the first day of the blessed Eid Al Fitr.
Qatar marks one of the most special and joyous occasions in the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Fitr today.
With strict measures in place against the second wave of COVID-19 in the country, Eid al-Fitr 2021 celebrations are to follow somewhat of the same trend as last year and remain toned down to ensure the safety of everyone.
Unlike pre-COVID-19 times, Eid al-Fitr this year will be celebrated without public large-scale events and gatherings.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs opened certain mosques and prayer grounds for eid prayers.
Meanwhile, authorities have been urging citizens and residents of Qatar to follow preventive and precautionary measures against COVID-19, even if they have been vaccinated.
On the advent of the blessed occasion of Eid al-Fitr, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani exchanged greetings and blessings with several leaders of Arab countries.
HM King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, HE Dr Barham Salih, President of the Republic of Iraq, HE Qais Said, President of the Republic of Tunisia, and HE President Abdel Majid Tebboune, President of the People s Democratic Republic of Algeria, were among the leaders HH the Amir greeted via telephone calls yesterday.
HH the Amir also exchanged Eid al-Fitr greetings with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King of Saudi Arabia, President of Palestine and President of Turkey.
