Young Central Queenslanders who are looking to make a real change in their communities are encouraged to participate in the 2021 YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament, with nominations now open.
The YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament offers young Queenslanders aged 15 to 25 years the opportunity to speak up for their communities and learn first-hand about parliamentary processes.
Member for Keppel and Assistant Education Minister Brittany Lauga said since 1996, the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament had brought young people together to learn about democracy, connect with their peers and have a say about important issues facing the state.
“I encourage young people to nominate for this program to assist them to build their leadership skills and learn about influencing change,” Ms Lauga said. ....

Altum, businesses form association to vouch for GKI resort


Altum Property Group and Capricorn Coast businesses last month formed an association to advocate the development of Altum’s planned resort on Great Keppel Island.
The GKI Progress Association Inc.’s stated aims are to increase awareness of the resort project, to provide stakeholders a forum to discuss it, and to speak with all levels of government about their island investments.
The group’s secretary is Altum’s revitalisation project general manager Leigh McCready.
Its president is Ross O’Reilly and its treasurer is Gerry Christie, both of whom are also on the association’s committee, which consists of those who signed an open letter drafted by Ms McCready in September last year. ....

$700,000 windfall for eight CQ race clubs

Eight Central Queensland race clubs will share in nearly $700,000 worth of infrastructure funding from the State Government’s Country Racing Program.
The big winner is the Emerald Jockey Club with $470,000 for a new racecourse mower, fertilising and spraying equipment, an irrigation upgrade and tie-up stalls.
Bluff Blackwater Amateur Race Club will receive nearly $200,000 for a new public address system, perimeter fencing for the horse float area and to refurbish its tie-up stalls.
Yeppoon Turf Club will receive $40,000 to upgrade its chute and Clermont Race Club $10,000 for fencing.
In Gladstone there is funding for culvert repairs, Alpha is set for a track upgrade, Aramac Racing Club received funding for a firewall for shed development and Barcaldine will receive funding for a new judges tower. ....
