San Angelo Central foils Lady Lions in home opener, 14-3

Facing an undefeated Class 6A foe in their home opener Tuesday night, the Brownwood Lady Lions softball team came up on the short end of a 14-3, six-inning decision against the San Angelo Central Lady Cats. “They put pressure on us from the first pitch,” said Lady Lions head coach Jessica Lynn, referring to a deep fly out to left field to start the contest. “We could feel that so it puts a lot of pressure on you. I felt like some innings we were OK and some innings we let it get to us. I never felt like we stopped fighting, they just took it to us, and they hit the ball hard. I knew it was going to be a tough one. There’s some areas we need to fix, we have some things we have to work on, but we were going to have to play our best game of the year so far and it didn’t work out that way.”

Lady Lions softball tacks on two more wins in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO – The Brownwood Lady Lions softball team added two more wins to their season tally to conclude Concho Classic action Saturday, knocking off Amarillo Palo Duro, 6-0, and Big Spring, 6-3. In the win over Palo Duro, Auzzlyn Benedict hurled a four-inning, one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and three walks. Brownwood scored in all four trips to the plate – two runs in both the first and second innings and one each in the third and fourth. The Lady Lions chalked up four hits – one each by Benedict, Chesney Covey, Mia Lopez, and Cecilia Rodriguez, who drove in two – with six walks, and Palo Duro committed six errors.

Lady Lions keep flawless district, home records intact with 1-0 win over Mineral Wells

The Brownwood Lady Lions remained undefeated in District 4-4A soccer action – and perfect at Gordon Wood Stadium – with a 1-0 triumph over the Mineral Wells Lady Rams Friday night.
