U.S. congressional representatives introduced a bipartisan bill on July 15 with the goal of providing a clear definition of assets, such as digital tokens and other emerging technologies, under current securities law.
Known as the
Security Clarity Act, the bill was introduced by Rep Tom Emmer (R-MN), Rep Darren Soto (D-FL), and Rep Ro Khanna (D-CA). This legislation seeks to change the definition of a term that has been used for more than 75 years. The status of any asset sold as an “investment contract” would become an “investment contract asset.”
WASHINGTON (June 8, 2021) – Today, Representative Mike Guest (R-MS-3) and Representative Darren Soto (D-FL-9) led a bipartisan group of 52 lawmakers in pushing the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to complete their investigation into the meatpacking sector, and whether or not anticompetitive practices have contributed to a persistent imbalance in the cattle markets.
This letter is the latest result of a recent groundswell of bipartisan, bicameral attention into the need to return market leverage to the side of cattle farmers and ranchers and address the startling price disparity between live cattle and boxed beef.
Last week, NCBA with the support of 39 state cattle groups called yet again for a swift conclusion to DOJ’s investigation into the packing sector.

A Florida Congressman is committed to lowering prescription drug prices for millions of Floridians. Representative Darren Soto of Orlando is cosponsoring the recently reintroduced the Lower Drug Costs Now Act allowing negotiated drug prices in Medicare and extending those deals to people with private insurance. He says the bill would cap out-of-pocket costs for seniors at 2-thousand-dollars, ensuring Americans no longer pay 3-to-4 times more for medications than people in other countries. He wants to crack down on drug companies benefiting from tax breaks while raising prices on hundreds of prescriptions.
