Good Heavens, this year is going by much faster than I thought.
We’ve already experienced the beginning of a New Year, Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday and just about every other holiday including Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, etc., all virtually. In fact, virtual (virtually) has become a distinct part of the 2021-22 vocabulary. As Presidents’ Day 2021 have recently gone by and now it’s on to Easter.
I bet many of you haven’t been aware (unless you have children) this was normally February Vacation week.
By the time you read this, the children have been back to school, for the most part, virtually most likely. There is something surreal about all of this. I feel so sorry for the kids. Whether they call it a vacation or a no school day because of a snow storm, nothing really changes.
Free Admission Day at Buttonwood Park Zoo During Winter Break UPDATE as of 8:20 am on Thursday, February 18: This event is STILL ON! Please note that we are sold out for the day. Only those who have pre-registered will be able to attend today.
New Bedford s beloved zoo has partnered with Highland Street Foundation and the New England Patriots Foundation to offer a day of free admission to families during the winter vacation as part of the “Winter Camp 2021” program.
The zoo will be open to all on Thursday, February 18 from 9 am to 4 pm, with the last entry being at 3:15 pm. In order to allow for proper social distancing, space is limited. Tickets to the Zoo must be reserved online in advance of your arrival, as you will need to choose a specific entry time for your visit. This helps us limit person-to-person transactions and help us manage guest capacity throughout the day. Per state guidelines, guest contact information will be required during the online ticketing proce

This is the first February vacation week that I have taken since as least 1986, which is the year before I started at the Boothbay Register. I may have taken the traditional winter school vacation week off in 1987 but I doubt it. I was bartending at Everybody s Restaurant and I needed to work to support my wife, Melodee, and daughter, Sara, who was born in 1984. Son Tim came along in 1988.
My February vacation weeks have been nonexistent because I have been covering the schoolboy and schoolgirl basketball tournaments since 1988. As you may have noticed, I love basketball and it has been a week I look forward to every year. Sadly, this year there is no Maine Principals Association tournament due to COVID-19.
