The Seneca County Board of Supervisors waited in anticipation for a presentation about the current Cayuga Nation taxation situation from Frank Sinicropi, the county’s treasurer but the latest breaking development wasn’t ever publicly acknowledged by the time the session started on Tuesday.
“The Cayuga Nation is not going to pay taxes on these two parcels until the Supreme Court of the United States does something…. Well, they did do something today, we know that they’re not going to…,” Sinicropi began explaining until Board Chairman Bob Hayssen interrupted, “wait, wait, wait” advising him to “leave that part out for now.” Earlier this week a court ruled denying the Seneca County’s certiorari. ....

Sales tax sharing up for debate again in Seneca County

Sharing sales tax is once again up for debate in Seneca County.
A special committee has been re-identified to study the matter, which has been debated several times over the last 4-5 years.
Chairman Bob Hayssen appointed supervisors Kyle Barnhart, Cindy Lorenzetti, Paul Kronenwetter, Michael Reynolds and Don Trout to the committee.
In the past, the supervisors have considered sharing a percentage of sales tax with towns.
The topic came up at the February 23 meeting by Barnhart, who said that while a committee was authorized- no final recommendation had been made in years.
It’s unclear how soon this might come to fruition. But the committee is expected to begin meeting effective immediately. ....
