NFL draft scores big for Cleveland
Cleveland tourism leaders say the draft helped bring us one step closer to getting back to normal after the pandemic. The city hosted thousands of people over the 3-day event that wrapped up Saturday. Fans said they felt safe with the precautions that were taken and out-of-town visitors say they enjoyed visiting the city, despite some rain and chilly temperatures. The first night of the draft scored well with TV viewers, drawing 12.6 million viewers, second only to last year’s record 15.5 million.

Samuel Frederick Nixon IV “Rick” of Austin, Texas, formerly of Mayville, N.Y., passed away on April 14, 2021.
He was born on June 18, 1953, in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late Samuel Frederick and Millie (Hall) Nixon III. He attended Nichols School in Buffalo, N.Y., before graduating from Hamburg High School in 1971. He later attended Baldwin Wallace University.
Rick spent his summers in the Chautauqua Institution working on the infamous “most handsome” garbage truck crew. It was there that he joined the Aardvarks softball team and became their star pitcher. With Rick’s competitive nature and love of all things sports related he would be delighted to be remembered by the one time the Aardvarks defied all odds coming from seven runs behind the Charlie Brown All-Stars when Rick slammed a home run and drove in three runs helping bring the final score to 15-10. ....

BEREA, Ohio (WOIO) - Students in the Baldwin Wallace sport management program will be working at the NFL draft next week in Cleveland, marking a return to a more hands-on learning style.
“The last few months [there’s] been a lot of hoping and praying and waiting for, ‘yes, it’s finally going to happen,’” said associate professor Charles Campisi. “We don’t want students sitting in a classroom for four years hearing about great [something] can be, we want them experiencing it.” ....

Loosened zoning could cut housing costs | News, Sports, Jobs

Special to The Times
Less-strict residential zoning standards, such as those limiting an area to single-family housing, would make homes cheaper in the future, according to a survey of Ohio economists published on Monday.
A poll of the Ohio Experts Panel by Scioto Analysis, found that 22 of 26 economists agreed that such a move would reduce housing costs. Some even argued that it would make for better neighborhoods.
“It is efficient to allow multi-family units to be built anywhere and allow mixed residential and businesses to allow ‘walkable’ neighborhoods,” University of Toledo economist Kevin Egan commented as part of the survey. ....
