Well, it is that time again, to get the Rocky Mountain Cup going again. First things first, Colorado comes in with a 7-3-3 record, and RSL has slipped to 4-5-4 after poor showings against the LA Galaxy and LAFC. For Colorado, there are some key things to look for as they come to Rio Tinto Stadium.
First, they will be without a few players: Kellyn Acosta, Johnathan Lewis, and Sam Vines who are with the USMNT for the Gold Cup. Colorado retired Pablo Mastroeni on July 4th, and he is on the bench for RSL now as part of their technical staff, and of course Robin Fraser, Colorado’s head coach, started out on the bench for Real Salt Lake. Would it help if we traded Freddy Juarez and Pablo Mastroeni for Robin Fraser?? Just kidding.well.mostly just kidding.

Bobby Wood scored his first career MLS goal to help lead Real Salt Lake to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids in the first leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup in Sandy, Utah, on Saturday night.
Salt Lake (5-4-5, 20 points) earned just its third victory in the last 12 matches and its third home victory of the season. The Utah club took the lead on an early defensive error by the Rapids and never looked back.
Colorado (7-4-3, 24 points) never recovered after giving up an own goal. The Rapids did not create a shot on goal until the second half. They ultimately edged RSL 9-5 in total shots and held possession 58 percent of the time, but came away with nothing to show for it.

The first leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup features a change from the usual status quo.
Colorado travels to Sandy, Utah to face Real Salt Lake on Saturday looking like the stronger club in the rivalry. The Rapids have not lost in July and are unbeaten over their last four matches. They have allowed just two goals in that stretch while registering a pair of shutouts.
Of course, that success comes with a caveat. Colorado (7-3-3, 24 points) has not played a road match in a month and has just two wins in five road matches this season. Still, the Rapids have the defensive chops to start getting road results. Colorado is allowing only 1.0 goals per game second only to Seattle in the Western Conference.
