House votes to cancel Trump’s ‘national emergency’ on the border; Sen. Rob Portman undecided on issue
WASHINGTON, D. C. - In an unprecedented rebuke of a chief executive, the U.S. House of Representatives voted largely along party lines Tuesday to override President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency along the nation’s southern border.
All Democrats in the House of Representatives joined with thirteen Republicans to pass the measure by a 245 to 182 margin - far short of the number that would be required to override a likely presidential veto. None of Ohio’s Republicans supported the effort.
34 GOP Lawmakers Press Pelosi to Lift House Mask Mandate in Light of New CDC Guidance
Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) led a group of 34 Republican lawmakers urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to end pandemic-related restrictions on the House floor, including staggered voting and mask-wearing.
In a letter (pdf) on Friday, Gibbs and his GOP colleagues called on Pelosi to end COVID-19-related restrictions on House operations, referencing a Thursday announcement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) saying that vaccinated individuals generally no longer need to wear masks in any settings, indoor or outdoor.
Gibbs said in a statement that “it is time to set an example for the American people” and urged Pelosi to “follow the science, stop the mask-erpiece theatre.”
34 GOP Reps Ask Nancy Pelosi to Lift Mask Rule in House Following New CDC Guidelines

Over 30 House Republicans sent a letter to Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on Thursday asking her to lift the mask mandate in the House following new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The letter, first obtained by The Daily Caller, and appears to have been spearheaded by Ohio Congressman Bob Gibbs then signed by 33 other GOP members, begins by pointing to new guidance from the CDC released earlier on Thursday. Then the letter urg[es] Pelosi to immediately return to normal voting procedures and end mandatory mask requirements in the House of Representatives.

The CDC announced Thursday vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks in most settings.
Biden relaxed mask rules at the White House, but Pelosi said she s keeping a mandate in the House.
Republicans urged her to drop the rule and show the country we can resume normal life through vaccination.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that she would continue requiring masks to be worn on the House floor, despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s new guidance.
The CDC said earlier in the day that fully vaccinated people can stop wearing masks in almost all settings, including indoors, marking a significant departure from previous guidance. The new recommendations also said vaccinated people no longer need to keep physically distant. However, people who are not fully vaccinated are advised to continue wearing masks.
