Cholera: 2 die as FCT records 53 new cases

According to him, within the last 24 hours,  29 cholera cases were recorded in Gwagwalada, 14 in Kuje, seven in AMAC and Bwari two. “All these just within the last 24 hours, while we have about 56 confirmed cases and cumulatively the suspected cases are up to 415 and this may not be the true reflection as every hour, every minute, the figures keep changing,” he said. He added: “As we are on our way coming to Abaji, they were calling our attention in Waru, a settlement in AMAC, where they lost two people last night and seven others were taken to the PHC there,” he added.

INEC to conduct by-election for Rimba/Ebagi Ward of Abaji Area Council on April 24

By Emmanuel Oloniruha Abuja, March 31, 2021 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed April 24 for the Rimba/Ebagi Ward of Abaji Area Council by-election in the FCT. The commission disclosed this in a statement by Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in Abuja on Wednesday. Okoye said the commission met on Tuesday and deliberated on a number of issues including the conduct of the by-election into the vacant seat. He said that the vacancy arose as a result of the death of Mr Usman Wodi, Councillor representing the ward and the subsequent declaration of vacancy for the ward by the Abaji Area Council.

INEC fixes date for FCT by-election

According to him, the vacancy arose as a result of the death of Hon. Usman Wodi, Councillor representing Rimba/Ebagi Ward of Abaji Area Council of FCT and the subsequent declaration of vacancy for the Ward by the Abaji Area Council. He added that, while the official notification for the election has been published on Wednesday 31 March 2021, political parties shall conduct their primaries between 3rd and 10th April 2021 while the last day for submission of the list of nominated candidates is at 6 pm on the 14 April 2021. He said: “Political parties shall submit the names of their polling agents for the election to the electoral officer of the local government on or before 16 April 2021 and campaigns by political parties shall stop on 22 April 2021.
