MILESTONE: Volunteers at the planting ceremony GREEN-fingered volunteers are celebrating after planting their 2,000th tree in an area of Bolton woodland. Bolton Lever Rotary Club marked the milestone by planting the tree in the wood off Stapleton Avenue, next to Astley Bridge Junior Football Club. The club began the project in 2015 and has since planted trees in several areas of the town including Captains Clough, Moss Bank Park and Doffcocker Lodge. The club s membership secretary, Pat Rothwell, said: Rotary tries to do projects for both the local and international communities. Since one of our members first found out that the Woodland Trust could provide little seeds to community groups, the tree-planting project in Bolton began.
With the summer holidays in full swing, Bolton Council’s fostering team asked their foster families about their favourite local attractions. Foster carers become highly skilled in keeping children and young people of all ages entertained on sunny and not so sunny days and they are perfectly placed to provide their expert opinion on what makes outdoor visitor attractions great. Here are their top ten places to visit with the whole family:
Moss Bank Park Coming in at number one was Moss Bank Park with the Hive, which offers a unique space made up of a series of gardens and natural play equipment. Designed with pre-schoolers and the under sevens in mind, it encourages young people to make lasting connections with nature through creative play including a restored mud kitchen, sensory garden and magical willow domes as well as a new water play installation.
