“He clearly has the makings of a very good dog,” the vet told me, as he wrangled our growling, shivering, Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix on his lap to cut his nails. “I’m going to give you the number of a pet psychologist.”
My husband and I rescued Bowie Philbert from a California kill shelter almost three years ago. We adopted him six months after Stewie, my husband’s beloved Chihuahua and a faithful companion, died at 13 years old.

A LITTLE rescued pup has brought lockdown joy to a couple who suffered the loss of their last dog. Tiny Ted was taken away from his mum when he was too young and later cared for by SNDogs. But he spent his first Christmas with Chelsea O’Neil, 21 and partner Tyler Bingham, 24 after they adopted him. Chelsea said: Ted has been a breath of fresh air. He s a happy dog. The couple from Shaw already have a cocker spaniel poodle cross called Luna. But in the summer they had to have their Staffie Patterdale cross Levi put down because of behavioural problems.
