Another View: Even small fish are in danger of being overfished
The World Food Prize winner’s advocacy for fighting world hunger with a diet rich in fish should be tempered by moderation.

In regards to the May 13 editorial on Shakuntala Thilsted’s research on the benefits of eating small fish, “Our View: In Maine, worldwide, small fish could be the future for seafood.”
In the early 1990s, while in Peru, I saw that ecosystems had collapsed because the Soviet fishing fleet had harvested anchovies into extinction. Marine biologists had urged the Soviets to suspend harvesting during spawning times. The Russians refused to do so “because they had a contract.”

The March 5 editorial (“Our View: Midcoast pipeline rejection shows that climate questions aren’t easy to answer”) makes excellent points because it is vital to recognize the difference between practical and theoretical hopes.
The big issue is to “get there from here” most efficiently, realistically and economically. Excess clean-energy production should be turned into hydrogen and oxygen that could be fed into pipelines and propane-style storage containers for use to replace fossil fuel gases. Pipelining captured methane gas from septic and waste processing systems can also be used with scrubbers as needed on the world’s journey toward carbon neutrality.

The Handforth Parish Council meeting is the gift that keeps on giving and the memes just get better.
Late last night a compilation of a Handforth Parish Council meeting was uploaded to YouTube and the 18 minute video has gone viral. Everyone is obsessed with one woman, Jackie Weaver, expertly shutting down a council member and removing him from the meeting.
The video was filled with many more iconic moments including the council member on Aled’s iPad getting very angry at Jackie’s decision, Julie interrupting the meeting from her iPad and Sue asking people to apologise to Jackie. In short, it’s become a modern classic that will probably be nominated for an Oscar or at least see Jackie on Strictly with Anton Du Beke.
