Reactions have trailed Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr’s 31-man provisional list for this month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday released the squad list for the Eagles’ games against Benin Republic and Lesotho, with Belgium goal king Paul Onuachu surprisingly placed on standby despite his impressive performance for Genk so far this season, while team captain Ahmed Musa, who has been without a club for five months, was invited for both matches.
Onuachu is top scorer in the Belgian topflight with 25 goals in 29 matches.
Reacting to the list, former England striker John Fashanu said, “I’m dumbfounded and I cannot believe that a player who has been consistently scoring goals is not in the squad. I don’t want to think that it is a personal vendetta because if I thought that way, I’m sorry we will jerk that coach out of there sooner than he can say hot mushrooms.
