Emily in Paris is perfect trashy TV. Bridgerton? Itâs just flimsy and dull

I have a healthy tolerance for junk TV. Yes, OK, sometimes even an appetite for it. I can admit, with only a twinge of embarrassment, that Iâve watched all of
Emily in Paris. Just as there are times when fast food hits the spot, there are times when a serve of trashy TV is just right.
Which is why my escalating antipathy as I ploughed through
Bridgerton (Netflix) surprised me. By halfway through its eight-part first season â a second has recently been announced â I was thoroughly sick of the Bridgertons, their nasty neighbours, the Featheringtons, and most of Londonâs Regency-era high society. Even with the elaborate costumes, the lavish balls, the spirited sniping and the ostensibly steamy romance and hot sex. Even with its megaphone-blasted theme of female empowerment wrapped in a bodice-ripping yarn.

SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane Police have arrested a driver for killing a woman in North Spokane.
According to Cpl. Nick Briggs, a woman in her 40s was hit by a truck near Cincinnati Street and Olympic Avenue. First responders arrived and attempted life-saving measures around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. She passed away at the scene.
Briggs said the driver, a man in his 40s, was in a “dating relationship” with the woman. He added that an argument happened on Sunday between the two, but it’s unclear when it happened or if the fight played a factor in the incident.
IN the original 2020 vision of York’s pantomime season, Dame Berwick Kaler made his comeback in Dick Turpin Rides Again in his newly adopted home of the Grand Opera House. York Theatre Royal had a ball with Cinderella, bedding in a new partnership with Evolution Productions, and the Rowntree Players filled the Joseph Rowntree Theatre with community spirit as ever. Then, however, the pandemic, rather than pantomime, became the P word on all lips, tearing up the script for the winter ahead. Dick Turpin never left the stable; the Theatre Royal took to the road with the Travelling Pantomime; Rowntree Players made plans for 2021 instead.
