Campaigning for Nagoya mayoral race starts in central Japan

(Mainichi/Hiroki Sameshima) NAGOYA (Kyodo) Official campaigning for the Nagoya mayoral election started Sunday, with incumbent Takashi Kawamura facing a challenger backed by both ruling and opposition parties as well as two other candidates. The April 25 contest will effectively be a fight between Kawamura and Toshiaki Yokoi, a former city assembly member supported by the governing Liberal Democratic Party, its coalition partner Komeito, the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and the Democratic Party for the People.
