Australia is on the verge of its COVID-19 vaccine rollout, with states and territories preparing their plans.
The first doses of the Pfizer vaccine have arrived, while the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has given the green light to use of the Oxford University-AstraZeneca jab.
Beginning on Monday (February 22), the rollout will be a lengthy process, taking some months and prioritising the most at-risk people. The federal government is coordinating the vaccination of residents and staff of aged care and disability residential care facilities, but everything else will come under state and territory jurisdiction.

New Suicide Prevention Program to Support State’s Most Vulnerable
South Australia’s most vulnerable now have better access to support services thanks to a new pilot program to help survivors of attempted suicide.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said The Way Back Support Service, a Beyondblue initiative delivered in collaboration between AnglicareSA and Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN), provides one-on-one support to survivors after they leave hospital.
“We are committed to tackling our suicide rate through offering appropriate services to those who need support and ensuring that people at increased risk of suicide don’t fall through the gaps, Minister Wade said.

Dedicated COVID-19 Medi-Hotel Ready To Open
On February 8, SA Health will gain access to the brand-new Tom’s Court, which will accommodate the state’s dedicated COVID-19 facility.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said as part of the plan to protect South Australians from the spread of COVID-19, the opening of Tom’s Court marks a significant enhancement of our State’s quarantine process.
“More than 11,000 people have quarantined in one of our medi-hotels to date and we are committed to our quarantine system being as safe and stringent as possible,” Minister Wade said.

New Hospital School for Children in North
Children who are patients at the Lyell McEwin Hospital can now go to school there, with the State’s newest school campus opening within the hospital in time for the 2021 school year.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said children with acute and chronic health and mental health needs at the Lyell McEwin Hospital will be able to attend lessons run by the Hospital School SA program.
“We know that any hospital visit is a stressful time for families, let alone having the added stress on parents who might have to try and ‘home school’ their children while they’re at hospital,” Minister Wade said.
