CHARLESTON â A West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles spokesperson said offices statewide are back up and running after workers discovered a technology error Monday morning.
Some appointments at DMV locations were complicated early Monday due to an error resulting from a weekend software update, agency spokesperson Natalie Holcomb wrote in an email Monday afternoon.
âA software update was implemented this weekend by one of the WV DMVâs 3rd party vendors that caused our server/systems not to ârestartâ today. As soon as the DMV was made aware, we took immediate action, and by 10:30 a.m., everything was fully functional and resolved,â Holcomb wrote.

KEYSER - The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles will open its branch office in Mineral County on Wednesday, March 3.
The office located at Sunrise Summit near Romney closed permanently Wednesday and work has progressed to move operations to the Potomac Plaza beside Keyser Walmart in time for next week’s opening.
According to Natalie Holcomb, public information specialist with the DMV, when the new branch opens it will be offering full services for area residents, including renewing licenses and ID cards, renewing registrations, titles, and more.
CHARLESTON â Donât be surprised to see more paper temporary tags than usual on cars navigating West Virginiaâs roads.
Production is down as the prison system has scaled back operations because of confirmed COVID-19 cases and inmates being quarantined, according to state officials. West Virginia Correctional Industries at Mount Olive Correctional Complex cranked out 469,373 license plates in 2020, said Lawrence Messina of the state Department of Homeland Security. The usual output is about 500,000 plates crafted by the plantâs 17-inmate crew. Those plates are then ordered months in advance by the state and stored in a warehouse for distribution.
âThere have been some distribution delays to motorists, especially for specialty plates,â said Natalie Holcomb, spokeswoman for the state Division of Motor Vehicles.

KEYSER, W.Va. â The Division of Motor Vehicles regional office in Romney will be moving to Keyser in the spring.
Del. Gary Howell (R-Mineral) confirmed the pending move to the Times-News during a phone interview Wednesday.
Howell, recently selected speaker pro tempore for the upcoming legislative session, said bringing a DMV office to Keyser has been a priority of his for years.
âWeâve done a lot of research on this, and Mineral County is the highest populated county without a DMV office at all, or at least access to one that is close by,â Howell said. âTo give you an example, Ohio County has a bigger populace. They donât have an office, but thereâs one in Moundsville, and itâs like, only 8 miles from Wheeling, which is the population center of Ohio County.â
