SILVER CITY - Silver City MainStreet is acknowledging downtown businesses that have persevered during the COVID-19 pandemic with Downtown Silver City Strong awards. The awards are a way to say thank you to businesses that have worked hard to stay open and find new and creative ways to operate.
The latest recipients are Jumping Cactus Coffee House, Forrest Pizza and the Tranquil Buzz Coffee House.
Melissa Holland took over the Jumping Cactus Coffee House just as the pandemic hit. She recently held a bake sale for the holidays to earn more funds. She said customers pre-ordered and then safely picked up their items. Holland encourages residents to order take out drinks and sit outside on the porch to enjoy one of her coffees or treats.

SILVER CITY - Silver City MainStreet is acknowledging downtown businesses that have persevered during the COVID-19 pandemic with Downtown Silver City Strong awards. The awards are a way to say thank you to businesses that have worked hard to stay open and find new and creative ways to operate.
Amy Wagner, executive director of the gospel mission says the shelter has seen a tremendous increase in the number of families it serves. In March of this year, we provided meals for about 35 families. Last week we provided meals for 112 families. The same increase has been seen in the number of senior citizens needing meals, Wagner said.

At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a new total of 132,075 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 826 new cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has an increase of 6 new cases for a total of 785 positive cases with 278 recovered; Luna County had an increase of 1 new case for a total of 2,241 positive cases with 1,411 recovered; Hidalgo County has remained at a total of 219 positive cases with 136 recovered; and Catron County has remained at 55 positive cases with 16 recovered. There are currently 810 COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide.
