Kathryn Sandercock started and pitched her third complete game of the season for the Noles in the circle as she allowed seven hits and two runs with four strikeouts.
Florida State came out of the gates swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning. Elizabeth Mason led off for the Noles with a double down the right-field line. She scored on the next at-bat as Devyn Flaherty blasted a single up the middle. Sydney Sherrill then walked bringing up freshman Kalei Harding. She hit her fifth double of the season to left-center scoring Flaherty and Sherrill giving the Noles an early 3-0 advantage.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 5 Florida downed No. 16 Florida State, 5-0, behind a one-hit complete-game shutout from
Elizabeth Hightower at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium Friday afternoon.
In the Gators (14-0) first game against a top 25 opponent, Hightower (7-0) was lights out in the circle as she turned in her second complete-game one-hit shutout of the season against the sixteenth-ranked Seminoles (10-4).
The Monticello, Fla. native faced 25 total batters and only allowed three walks in addition to the lone hit by Devyn Flaherty in the 6
th inning of play.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The No. 16 Florida State softball team (10-3) kicks off rivalry week on Friday at 3:30 pm against No. 5 Florida (12-0) in Gainesville. The home and away weekend gets wrapped up in Tallahassee on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
Florida State enters the week coming off three wins in the Unconquered Invitational. The Seminoles earned two wins against Florida Gulf Coast and one against Southeastern Louisiana.
The Gators have won 12 straight games to start the season, with 10 of their 12 wins at home. Florida went 4-0 last week with a win over UNF, McNeese State and a pair of wins over Louisville.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The No. 15 Florida State softball team (8-3) defeated Florida Gulf Coast (4-6) on day one of the Unconquered Invitational, 7-0. She improved her record this season to 3-1. Sandercock retired eight in a row from the second inning through the third inning. Caylan Arnold entered the game in relief in the top of the fifth inning. She pitched two innings and allowed no hits with one strikeout. Emma Wilson finished the game for Florida State pitching the final inning, not allowing a single batter on base. Florida State got things started in the first at-bat of the game as Elizabeth Mason hit a solo home run to left field, giving FSU an early 1-0 lead. With two outs in the fourth inning, Danielle Watson entered the game in relief for her sixth appearance of the season. She would only throw 0.2 innings, allowing three runs with two strikeouts. Emma Wilson would finish off the game for Florida State, pitching 1.2 innings allowing one run with three strikeouts.
Sandercock had it rolling in the first three innings, facing the minimum of nine batters. In the fourth, the Virginia Tech offense got rolling as they scored two runs on two hits, including a double to right field and a single to the shortstop.
