Single Week U S Sorghum Sales Shatter Previous Records

- National Sorghum Producers CEO Tim Lust U.S. Department of Agriculture data issued this morning show U.S. sorghum exports the previous week were a record breaking 33.9 million bushels, topping the previous record by more than 10 million bushels, which took place in August 2020. The top destination was China. In addition to record-breaking exports, new sales commitments were 33.8 million bushels, predominantly purchased by China. The previous record for weekly sorghum sales was 32 million bushels, also in August 2020. “U.S. sorghum exports continue to signal very strong demand for our crop, and new purchases at this level only reaffirm that,” National Sorghum Producers CEO Tim Lust said. “The size of shipments reported this last week is equivalent to the size of approximately 10-12 Panamax vessels.”

Agricultural Leaders Look Forward To Busy Export Year - The Waterways Journal

March 12, 2021 By David Murray Whatever else happens with the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines, farmers and agricultural producers are looking forward to another great export year for key American agricultural commodities. Exports of American corn, soybeans, sorghum, cattle and pork are all up, and world demand continues to boom. Most of the grain exports will be carried by barge at some point.  The leaders of major agricultural advocacy groups spoke at the opening session of the Commodity Classic, the U.S.’s largest annual farm event and trade show. This year’s event, which marks its 25th anniversary, was its first virtual one. Last year’s Commodity Classic ended just as the COVID-19 virus broke out. 

NSP ANNUAL YIELD CONTEST

Mar 10, 2021 8:10 AM (SPRINGFIELD) A Clark County farmer has finished first in the Illinois conventional tillage class of the National Sorghum Producers (NSP) 35th annual yield contest with a 174.9 bushels per acre yield. Allen Walters of the Clarksville area planted his 1.5 acre plot to basically deal with a deer herd problem, but it ended up with the winning yield. Overall, Walter’s entire 72 acres of milo averaged 147 bushels per acre with a test weight above 60 pounds harvested at 18 percent moisture. Other winners in the yield competition included Jim Stoecklin in Bond County, Illinois for top honors in the state’s dryland no-till category with a yield of 173.5 bushels per acre. Ella Johnston of Pennsylvania won the national with a record yield of 245.8 bushels per acre. U.S. Farmers overall planted 5.88 million acres of sorghum last year, up 12 percent from the year before in 2019 and a four year high.
