Electronics manufacturers are increasingly producing software and products that address hearing loss. Smartphone apps, earbuds, and soundbars help people understand real-time, in-person conversations, phone calls, and streaming media. It s remarkable that so many more tech companies are even thinking about people with hearing loss, says Joe Montano, a New York City audiologist and professor at Cornell University s Weill Medical College.
Montano was pleasantly surprised to learn that big box retailer BJ s is now selling a dialogue clarifying soundbar that makes it easier for people with hearing loss to understand movies and TV shows by reducing the prominence of music and sound effects in the soundtrack.
Digital future for Portuguese cinema
The Ministry of Culture has announced that it wants all Portuguese cinema to be digitalised and all cinemas in the country to be equipped with digital equipment, through the funds included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The intention was stated by the State Secretary for Cinema, Audiovisual and Media, Nuno Artur Silva, in a presentation session of new resources and re-launching of the National Cinema Plan, at Cinemateca, in Lisbon.
Nuno Artur Silva spoke of the expectation that there will be conditions to proceed with the digitalisation of all Portuguese cinema and the provision of equipment, digital projection machines in all the cinemas in the country .
